(More customer reviews)I've heard Oma read her stories for years and now I finally got to read them myself in this long awaited collection.
These stories have been handed down, some for only a couple of generations while others have been passed down through many. They are spilling over with local color, colloquialisms and traditions. The history and rich flavor of this very unique region of the Blue Ridge Mountains come alive through Oma's words as she preserves these memories for future generations to come. The reader feels exactly like they are sitting there among the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren gathered around the fireplace while Grannie tells her tales on a cold, stormy night. Page after page, the lore of the neighbors, the outlaws in the region, and the farmers trying to eke a living off of the land are retold just like it happened yesterday.
