I was somewhat disappointed in the content of the book: however. I gave it a rating of 4 due to the meticulous way the author presents his material.
This book is not as much about years spent among Indians as it is his story of becoming a person appointed by Brigham Young to go into Mexico and open doors for Mormons to be accepted among the Spanish. who were devout Catholics and had been informed by the Pope to run Mormons out of Mexico. This story is amazing itself. and although I am not Mormon. had great respect for Daniel Jones after completing the book.
Mr. Jones used his knowledge he had obtained as a child to communicate in an honorable manner with the Indians. This knowledge was used as he traveled around the West and South trying to open up communications with both Mexican and Indians in order to spread the Mormon beliefs and prepare the way for persons of the Mormon faith to move and develop communities.
Jones was able to use lessons he had learned from Indians earlier in his life to track. hunt. etc. However. a very small percentage of the book is about his life "among the Indians."
I was very satisfied with my purchase. but this is a Mormon Frontier Classics book. something I didn't find clear in the description.
