(More customer reviews)While not William Faulkner, Mr. Hill does a terriic job of capturing the texture of rural North Carolina through the course of a plain, yet extraordinary life. Delivered in a fascinating colloquial voice, the author describes the events in his life in a manner that is humble, straight forward, and endowed with a gratitude for his roots, and experience.
In this age of blogs, news cycles, and instant gratification, James Hill took nine decades to ponder the ideas he presents us with. While the lessons may not be sophisticated, I would much prefer Mr. Hill's digression than Kant's "Critique of Pure Reason."
I would encourage readers of all ages, ethnic and educational backgrounds to find the country wisdom located in this wonderful volume.
