(More customer reviews)This is a well researched book that goes behind the scenes of a major civil war battle. The author describes the effect of war from the commanding general to the common soldier as well as the hardships faced by the local civilians. He doesn't stray from the actual events of the "Battle of Chickamauga' and gives a detail account of the action that took place. I thoroughly enjoyed the interweaving from the battlefield to the homestead and all that takes place with the main characters. I would characterize this book as a historical novel and highly recommended reading. With the recent interest in historical movies I believe this book would make a fine movie as well, along the lines of 'Cold Mountain' and 'Gods And Generals'
