Binary Options, by Hamish Raw, is precise, informative and predictive, written in an easy to understand style by the guru of binary options.
Hamish also goes beyond your straight Upbet & Downbet options play. We learn about Range Bets, Eachway Bets, One-Touch, No-Touch and the strategy of hedging One-Touch Bets.
He also goes into great dept on how to use the "mighty Greeks," Delta, Vega, Theta and Gamma to improve your binary options trading strategies.
What we thought was most effective, was that Hamish created sample questions for the reader, at the end of each chapter, similar to a student's learning guide preparing for a test on Binary Options, a new type of option play to hit the world of options.
I just finished reading this book, and you have my word, Hamish did not put me up to it.

The Options Strategist: How to Invest and Trade Equity-Related Options Review

(More customer reviews)I've bought and sold many options using a variety of strategies. I enjoy reading as much as possible on options strategies because of the complexity of the subject. The author writes in a very clear logical sequence starting with Options 101 and then rapidly moves on to the more advanced strategies. He doesn't lose you in technical terms but keeps your interest as he walks through Options 401 (more advanced), and onto the more complex stuff. If you want to understand all of the "greek" options stuff, he explains it in an understandable format. Most options books I read get too generic and I lose interest but this book was different and I actually enjoyed it. I have 5 options books on my shelf right now and this one is the best of the group by far.

Options DeMYSTiFieD, Second Edition Review

(More customer reviews)"Options Demystified" is a worthy addition to McGraw-Hill's "Demystified" series, easily living up to its claim of being a self-teaching guide. Hundreds of books have been written on the subject of puts and calls, but this large-format paperback is by far the best I've come across for the aspiring option trader. It is comprehensive, well organized, generously illustrated and easy to understand. The book also includes many quizzes and a "final exam" to help the reader master the material.
The author, Thomas McCafferty, has been around commodities, stocks and options for many years and written numerous books on those subjects. This one not only lays out the basics of the options game, it also condenses much of the author's impressive horse-sense into a very readable and relatively short work (251 pages, plus an excellent index). "Options Demystified" should be on every trader's shelf. Even pros will find some pearls here, including a chapter on "trading philosophy" that's perfectly attuned to today's frothy markets. I recommend this book wholeheartedly to anyone looking for an options primer that is both comprehensive and easy to imbibe.

No in-depth math analysis. De Weert lists the essential formulas and payoff functions in a readable and understandable format. He also gives some practical hints and explains some pitfalls one should be aware of. Both traders and quants will find this an excellent reference.

Written by an experienced trader and consultant, Frans de Weert's Exotic Options Trading offers a risk-focused approach to the pricing of exotic options. By giving readers the necessary tools to understand exotic options, this book serves as a manual to equip the reader with the skills to price and risk manage the most common and the most complex exotic options.

De Weert begins by explaining the risks associated with trading an exotic option before dissecting these risks through a detailed analysis of the actual economics and Greeks rather than solely stating the mathematical formulae. Trade Options Online (Trading for a Living) Review

Its pluses include its concise descriptions and profit/loss graphs of different option strategies and invaluable information on finding an online options broker. HOWEVER, it leaves the reader with unrealistic expectations (like all of Fontanills' and Optionetics' materials) in that ALL of the trades in the book are profitable. Take it from someone who has learned this personally -- options trading is NOT a "get rich quick" scheme. Should you choose to try it you will have MANY unsuccessful trades. A book which is very easy to understand, yet which provides valuable guidance on WHAT CAN GO WRONG is Max Ansbacher's _The New Options Market_. I sincerely recommend that book because it is able to describe the pitfalls of options trading in a manner which I've not found in other books. Good luck!

The author has used the workbook to test your knowledge of the hard back book. The work book pulls the salient points out so that you ensure you got what you need.
The tests are accompanied by the answers at the back of the book. I thought it a great idea to combine the two books as I never know if I got it all when I read a book.
This book has no practical use on its own and should have been bought with the Course Book.
Great idea. However, if you are looking for the detail you should buy the Options Course Book.

For those of us that write mechanical options trading systems, particularly combination models, Jeff's book is a must read. If you are an options price researcher looking for in depth advanced pricingmodel discovery, analysis and mathematics, this book is probably not for you. However, if you are looking at ways to improve your existing models thus converging the error between empirically derived options system equity curves and those equity curves derived from options models, you should read this book. As most traders know, efficient entry and exit points in the market often occur during periods when pricing models break down, so the more you can learn about options behavior during this transient period, the better your overall trading system will be.

Options:Essential Concepts, 3rd Edition Review

(More customer reviews)This book presents a highly readable overview of the subject of options and I would recommend it to anyone. I have not been able to find one book on options which is as wide ranging in its scope (i.e., history, pricing, strategy, individual and institutional investors' approaches, how the trading floor operates, how market makers trade, etc.). The authors have struck a good balance between depth of the subject matter and readability. There are more detailed texts available in the area of strategy (McMillan's _Options as a Strategic Investment_) or pricing (Natenberg's _Option Volatility and Pricing_), but I would especially recommend this book to individual investors interested in options. After reading this book they will have a much stronger footing from which to approach the forementioned other books (which are also excellent, by the way).
The previous reviewer's comments should be disregarded as I cannot conceive of anyone writing about this subject matter any more clearly (yes, I have read both of Fontanills' books) -- the authors appear to have put much effort into this book judging by its clarity, and one nitwit's daffy comments should not dissuade you!

(More customer reviews)I recently added "Options for the Stock Investor" to my financial trading and investment library, hoping it would keep its promise describing it as logically written in a systematic and straightforward manner. I'm pleased to say it HASN'T DISAPPOINTED.
Unfortunately, this book hasn't received the attention it deserves among the many books devoted primarily to intermediate options traders/investors. I've always felt that options were explained in a much too "matter of fact" manner, where the most practical information is inadvertently ignored, obscured or non-existent.
Anyone trying to learn stock options is arguably bombarded by fearful information and disorganized, incomplete explanations. This short but concentrated book cuts through the many counterintuitive aspects and implicit contradictions involving stock options.
Beginners need only go to the Investopedia and similar sites on the internet to reinforce the Introduction and supplement their exposure to the language of options.
I've seen some of the worst. This book ranks highly among the best.

(More customer reviews)This is a quick review of the excellent stock options trading book written by Bill Johnson called Options Trading 101.-johnI had a chance to buy Bills book when I met him in person at an options trading seminar before the book was launched publically.
Bill is one of the traders for a company called Options University which teaches stock options trading. Bill's book hit number one on Amazon just after it launched, so a lot of other people must have thought it looked pretty good too.
I guess the simplest thing I can say about Bill's book is that there is a fully in-depth options trading education within the 449 pages of the book, and if you have the discipline to go through the book slowly, taking notes, you can get an education that others have paid hundreds or maybe even thousands of dollars to recieve.
One of my favorite parts of Bill's book are the chapter review quizzes that he gives at the end of each chapter. Like any good teacher who teaches you something and then reviews with you to make sure you got it, Bill does just that with his end of chapter quizzes.
Bill goes from very beginner to rather advanced between the pages of this book and he does it in a pretty simply and easy to understand way, drawing a lot of connections to other real life matters to make understanding the more technical parts of trading a lot easier.
For a $20 book on options trading success, Bill's book is a no-brainer.

Value in Time: Better Trading through Effective Volume (Wiley Trading) Review

(More customer reviews)The author uses inexpensive off-the-shelf software to slice each trading day of a stock into one-minute segments. He finds the average one-minute volume for the day and separates the minutes into those with above or below average volume. In each group, he adds up the volume of minutes with rising prices and subtracts the volume of minutes with falling prices. This gives him two cumulative volume lines: one for the minutes with above average and the other for below average volume. He named them Large and Small Effective Volume.
The minutes with above average volume reflect the impact of the big money and often have predictive value. When you find a condition in which the big money starts pushing up a stock, while the small money remains negative or neutral, an upside reversal is in the cards. When the big money starts pushing the stock down while the small money is flat or buying, a downside reversal is more likely.
The author introduces another key concept which he calls Active Boundaries. When the returns from a stock over a period of time reach their upper boundary, the expectations for a further rise diminish and a downside reversal is more likely. When a stock declines and hits its lower Active Boundary, bullish expectations become high and the stock has a greater probability of an upside reversal. Numerous charts show how to catch reversals using these concepts.
In addition to Effective Volume and Active Boundaries the author describes several other concepts. He has a very rare ability to stand apart of the crowd, to question accepted concepts, and to come up with new ideas.
In the interest of full disclosure: I met Pascal a couple of years ago while working on my book Entries & Exits (John Wiley & Sons, 2005), which includes a chapter on his approach.
During the past year I have been receiving Pascal's analytic emails in which he shares his research into current markets. After you read this book, I suggest you write to Pascal and ask to be added to his mailing list!
I expect the concepts of Effective Volume, Active Boundaries, and others in this book to become accepted by many serious traders. As always, the early adopters will reap the greatest rewards.

Explains some esoteric concepts rarely discussed, such as time spread risk and delta drift. Very succinct explanation on arb spreads and combos, and the tendency to trade to the pin at expiration. (More customer reviews)This book is useful to traders of all backgrounds. I know that it will help me in my own trading. Most of the concepts in the book apply to trading in multiple markets and on multiple time frames. This book has a lot of information about both entry and exit strategies. There is not a lot of complicated math. It is easier to read and understand than many books about technical analysis and trading. It not necessary to know anything about charting before reading the book. In fact, if you read this book you will probably conclude that most books about technicial analysis are worthless. It is true that some parts of the book apply to functions of the AbleTrend 7.0 program, but most of the concepts are universal. The book is valuable whether you have used AbleTrend 7.0 or not. Besides trading techniques, the book has some interesting information on how Chinese philosophy applies to trading. The book presents some some compelling theories on why some trading techniques make sense while others will never work.
It is true that some of the indicators discussed in the book are proprietary. I don't think that this takes away from the usefulness of the book. It is not really necessary to know all of the mathematical algorithms. The most unfortunate aspect of the book is that it is printed in black & white. There are many trading examples, but they are difficult to follow because you cannot see the colors on the charts. You will probably want to get the book's charts in color by contacting AbleSys.

Up until I read this book covered calls and cash-secured put selling were the only option strategies I used and I was doing quite well until the sub-prime mortgage debacle. After taking a substantial hit to my account I decided to try to learn how to make money in an up and down market, so I bought a few books on options and planned to advance my education. My issue was I could not get through them because they were so math heavy or so boring that it just wasn't possible to stay awake while reading. The options playbook was just the right speed and density. It explains how to set up each strategy and provides a heads up to many of the pitfalls of each play. It does it in a VERY user friendly, easy to understand format. Also, it has a ingenious spiral binding which makes it possible to lay the book flat on the desk turned to the page you need, because of this it is the only book I keep next to my computer. I use it all the time for a quick reference or just a simple sanity check before I enter my long put spreads. I do wish it had a little more detail on how to exit positions. I have found this to be an issue with my other options books, so I had to learn the old fashion way - by doing. I did some research on author and found out that he has many free archived webinars on the Chicago Board Options Exchanges site ([...]). They are an excellent follow up to the book if you want more detail on a particular strategy and I also noticed his blog is posted inside his author page.
