The author has a professional background that enables him to present a complex topic in a manner and style that reveals not only the problem but enlightens us as to how it has been possible for this plague to infect the United States and other countries of the world. He explains how once vibrant lively cities are now shells of poverty, violence and extortion. He provides empirical data to show us how and when we lost control of our southern border and how avarice and gang activity, along with political weakness, first led us to a crisis and finally to an impasse with unstable consequences. Mr. Newby is well grounded on the subject and publishes daily Border Reports distributed to a large subscriber base in which he illustrates in real time the day-by-day facts dealing with multiple border invasions and its deadly consequences. This book is a "must read" for all politicians, department heads, members of Congress, law enforcement, border patrol agents, and caring citizens of the United States and Mexico. It should be a textbook for every classroom.
The author does not skim the surface and he does not mince words. He describes the unique culture of Mexico and the unexpected role that the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has played in this disturbing upheaval.
