This is a kind of omnibus volume of all the "best parts" of the series, which I've enjoyed as it developed. I can see its pleasure for someone who might lack the stamina to reread the entire series--a shut-in, perhaps. Also, its portability is nice for those of us who read while waiting. Really, it is as refreshing as a visit to familiar country--just the nicest kind of reunion!

If you enjoy laughing at clean jokes that are truly funny and without malice, Justin is as good as Robin Williams (no histrionics though) on a good day, funnier than Dan Ackroyd in his movies.
Mr. Wilson has two talents: cooking with a smile and spicy recipes for making people laugh.
A must see, must read and must get to know person both in print and the media.

Charlie Trotter's Vegetables Review

Charlie Trotter's Vegetables
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had this book for past two years and have tried a lot of the recipes. As a vegetarian, I have always had a hard time to find a book that has recipes that very tasty (I am not a big fan of meat substitute), simple, and beautiful. His books provides them all. His soups are pathetically easy...cook, blend, strain, and serve. He does spend sometime in decoration but these are usually not neccessary (I only ocassionally do that, eliminating them will not impact the overall taste). Unlike other readers, I have not had a hard time finding ingredients but then again, I live in Chicago and shop at numerous places for groceries. Although, Whole foods and Treasure Island (chicago area only) carries every single ingredient he calls for (some obviously are seasonal). It is an excellent book for people who love to cook seasonal vegetables (he breaks his recipes by months).
His dishes are laid out for course meals so the portions are small. I eat very small portions so if I cook the soup (the entire recipe, suggested serving is four) with some bread on side, it is enough for my friend and I.
I disagree with anyone who says that the recipes are hard to use. The time consuming part is roasting, baking, or cooling time (which does not require you spend the entire time in the kitchen, I generally spend that time to go do something else). I usually don't have the flavored oils that he calls for but I just substitute with one of the oils I have or just really good olive oil. I think if you have the time than go for the entire recipe but skipping the oils, or very small amount of sauce is not going to hurt the taste of the dish.
If you are intimidated by his book, I suggest your start with his soup recipe (for example, his Tomato soup recipe calls for taxi tomato...if you don't find taxi tomato, use big yellow tomato or even good quality red tomato).

With so few books solely on rum in exsistance, this wonderful book will never lose its potency. It doesn't give much history, focusing on fabulous recipes from all over the globe -- the way it should be. If you enjoy rum, you must add this to your collection. Bergeron was long considered the American authority of rum -- this book is proof he was.

This book is by "Trader Vic" Victor Bergeron, and Lucius Beebee only does the introduction. I had to clear that up... This book is the first and best thing ever done by Trader Vic, the man who popularized Polynesian food and drink, and added so many colors to America's culinary palate. Funny, smart and very well executed, it's a book of great importance to the American culture -- I believe it's a turning point. This is grand history.

The Trader Joe's Companion: A Portable Cookbook Review

The Trader Joe's Companion: A Portable Cookbook
Average Reviews:

I have used Cooking with All Things Trader Joe's for going on two years now - hands down it's my favorite cookbook and I use it several times a week. Most of my go-to dishes are from that cookbook. I was thrilled when I read an article about this new one coming out and snatched it up. I really liked the idea of a "portable" cookbook for taking to the store with you - just stick it in your purse and consult it as you go through the store picking up ingredients. I can't tell you how many times I would stop by TJ's on the way home from work and wished I had some recipes with me rather than randomly picking up products. The size is kind of like those wine guides - tall and narrow - so it definitely is compact and very cute. The recipes are more of the same quick and easy type as before, with all kinds of cuisines. I had discovered the Simply Quiche recipe on their TJ blog actually, and it's here in this book - it's one of those recipes that is fantastic and gets even better as you try your own variations. Lots of great salads too. The Coffee Chocolate Fudge is a-mazing and addictive. Keep 'em coming!

Cooking with All Things Trader Joe's Review

Cooking with All Things Trader Joe's
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Overall, this is an excellent cookbook. I've had this cookbook for about one month, and so far I love it.
First off, let me say that this book is targeted to cooks who enjoy creating "gourmet" type meals. This book isn't for you if you're looking for dishes that might show up in a cafeteria. Even though there are recipes for common things like sandwiches and casseroles, they have their own gourmet twist. So for those people who like to serve creative dishes, this cookbook is made for them.
The theory behind the book is that Trader Joe's sells many unique sauces, pre-chopped veggies, and other "half-prepped" ingredients that would normally take a cook a significant amount of time to prepare on their own. So combining the "half-prepped" ingredients of Trader Joe's and the recipes in the cookbook, you can whip up gourmet meals in a fraction of the time it would take you otherwise.
All the recipes have a large color picture, a list of ingredients (sometimes with substitutes), clear instructions, and the estimated prep time (usually in the 20-30min range). I've tried a few of the quick recipes and they have been pretty straightforward so far. The cookbook includes appetizers, entres, desserts, and a "bachelor quickies" section at the end which is basically heating pre-cooked/frozen stuff from Trader Joe's and combining them into interesting meals.
Most of the dishes are very original and look/sound delicious. There were a few recipes that I had question marks about, but I guess I'll find out how good they are once I try them.
So overall, if you like the idea of cooking original "gourmet-like" meals in a fraction of the time, and you have access to a Trader Joe's, this book is very highly recommended. Happy cooking!

Received the book this morning and have already prepared a soup and sandwich combo. Modified the "Good Luck Greens and Beans" into a soup by adding chicken stock and a little Parmesan. Could not resist the
"Croque Monsieur". Both were easy and very tasty just like the previous book's offerings. The I Love Trader Joe's Cookbook: 150 Delicious Recipes Using Only Foods from the World's Greatest Grocery Store Reading the recipes is like being in class...you can just hear her talking. Funny, informative and helpful regarding TJ's products; things in the pantry and, more importantly, what to hoard. I recommend this for newbies and established cooks. We can all use a fresh suggestion or shake up the rut we sometimes get into. This will make perfect Christmas/Holiday gifts for all. The photography is beautiful but I'm sure there will be some who think there is not enough of it. My original book is dog-eared; to me a sign of being well loved. It won't take long for this one to become the same!
Now, where's my Guinness for those cupcakes.....?

I own several of the Trader Joe's cookbooks and I'm excited to see this cookbook because 1) It has nutritional information - calories, fat, sodium, etc. Finally! I don't necessarily count the numbers every day but I really like having the information available as an FYI. I've been eating healthier these past few years and much is due to Trader Joe's and the ability to cook more regularly at home 2) This cookbook has all the things I loved about its predecessor "Cooking with all Things Trader Joe's" - the main one being the photos facing every single recipe. I don't want to buy cookbooks anymore unless they have photography and this one is packed from beginning to end with gorgeous, inspiring photos. The recipes have been fantastic so far - easy, simple but impressive, with lots of appeal all around. The TJ cookbook recipes are the only ones in my house that are requested over and over, and I'm happy to oblige.

While the title points this book towards the college crowd I would like to point it toward the work-at-home-full-time-dad-crowd, I know there are some of us out there.
I've had this cookbook a week now and have used it more than probably all my others combined. I love the one stop shopping aspect: all ingredients are at Trader Joes which is also affordable. The recipes are easy: more than a few of the ones I have made so far have made me say "why didn't I think of that" - the answer is because I am not Andrea Lynn and she deserves the credit. The recipes are delicious, period.
I remember being excited when my local Trader Joe's opened but I felt a little lost, thanks to this book not only have a rekindled my excitement for Trader Joe's but I now have the time to shop and prepare meals that are tasty and satisfying. I've even remembered to eat lunch this week and I didn't even have to wait until my daughter fell asleep to prepare it. Now if you'll excuse me I am off to make a Very Berry Smoothie.
PS I recommend the Pork Buns with Broccoli Slaw, The Avocado Toast, Parmesan and Bread Crumb-Crusted Tomatoes, Chicken Salad-stuffed Tomatoes and well pretty much everything else I made this week.

I am a frequent shopper of Trader Joe's; and this gem of a cooking book has enticed me to explore deep into the crevasses of my "local Joe". Not only have the recipes encouraged me to try more TJ's products, Cherie Mercer Twohy has inspired me to try new flavors and combination's of foods with her wisdom from her "years" of shopping at Trader Joe's and as a professionally trained chef.
You will want to read this cook book from cover to cover. The introduction is FILLED with how to get the best from your Trader Joe's, and most of the recipes include tips and/or a personal comment and sometimes a bit of humor, "Dental floss works great for cutting the goat cheese--just make sure to use the plain version, not the minty-fresh."
If you shop at Trader Joe's, you are probably concerned with the quality of food you eat. With this book you get the quality of TJ's products included in recipes that will put smiles on the faces of your family and friends and build your confidence as a cook. Oh! And most of the recipes, from starters to entrée's and dessert, can be prepared and served in 45 minutes or less.
Cherie has also included recipes that are vegetarian and gluten free. I especially appreciate the Hoardables and Pantry Staples List at the end of the book, because I was one of the victims of TJ's amazing frozen Pie Crust becoming a seasonal item. Take my word, you won't be disappointed.
