Applying Elliott Wave Theory Profitably Review

I recently completed the CMT (Chartered Market Technician) exam process- this is a professional exam for technical analysis, consists of three levels. The third level has a substantial section on Elliott Wave. I have read other books on Elliott, but this book was in my opinion the best written. Mr. Poser made a difficult subject much easier to digest. The real strength here is in discussing what NOT to do when using Elliott Wave- by keeping these tips in mind you will find you can readily apply the techniques to charts from various financial markets.
I highly recommend this book to anyone taking the CMT exam, especially those who don't use Elliott Wave in their trading and/or analysis.

I don't even know Mr. Bulkowski, but I felt compelled to write this review. One particular reviewer points out a few apparent discrepancies in this 672 page volume of research. It does not matter whether you are an author or have been published in trading-related magazines.
The reviewer sarcastically poses that since the "rectangle bottom" stats on page 659 portray a zero faulure rate, that traders can get rich and never lose money!
If you truly read the entire text, including Mr. Bulkowski's opening remarks that define his fresh statistical-analysis approach, then everything falls into place.
Furthermore, the author addresses the "zero loss stat" for the rectangle formation on pages 440 and 444. He states that the "sample size" was small for this pattern and said: "Let me emphasize that because I did not find any failures of rectangle patterns with upside breakouts does not mean there are none."
This is a good and comprehensive book with a very fresh statistical approach for analyzing classic (and newer) bar chart formations. There is a wealth of information addressing each of the many patterns. It is offered up to the reader as copious amounts of quantified data that any trader/investor can draw from to incorporate into his or her own trading.
I too am an author, and I trade stocks full-time for a living. This book is a great resource and fits in the top 15 T.A. books of which I own roughly 300.
Yeah, he called a "dogi" a "hanging man." To me that doesn't detract from the other 671 pages.
Buy it, read it and use it!

Bulkowski tells you how to trade the significant events -- such as quarterly earnings announcements, retail sales, stock upgrades and downgrades -- that shape today?s trading and uses statistics to back up his approach. This comprehensive new edition is a must-have reference if you're a technical investor or trader. Place your order today.
"The most complete reference to chart patterns available. It goes where no one has gone before. Bulkowski gives hard data on how good and bad the patterns are. A must-read for anyone that's ever looked at a chart and wondered what was happening." -- Larry Williams, trader and author of Long-Term Secrets to Short-Term Trading

This is the best work I've seen so far on technical analysis. I tried a couple of on-line tutorials, as well as a couple of books, and only ended up confused. This author assumes you know nothing and starts you out from scratch. I understand every sentence; it's also well-written enough that it's interesting. I'm now inspired to go on from here, perhaps with Nisan's Candlestick Charting and Beyond Candlesticks. I highly recommend this book.

Candlestick Charting Explained: Timeless Techniques for Trading Stocks and Futures Review

Candlestick Charting Explained: Timeless Techniques for Trading Stocks and Futures

I had already read this book and Steve Nison's Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques.
If you want to buy a book about candlestick both books have the same content about all the candlestick patterns and the descrition about them.
Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques:
- has chapters about the relationship of candlestick with Volume, Support and Resistence, trendlines, Indicators (MACD,IFR,etc). This is VERY GOOD. Realy good.
- It has many examples discussed too. More than this book.
This book has:
- a chapter about Trading with Candlesticks that has content about trendlines, supports, etc.
- a lot of statistics of the patterns.
One great difference is that this book is easier to use. It has a standardized format for all the patterns with Commentary, Rules, Psychology Behind the Pattern, Flexibility, Pattern Breakdown, Related Patterns, Examples. This is VERY GOOD. It's only search the pattern and read what you want to know. It has a table with a resume about the pattern too.
Steve Nison's book isn't objective and it is not hands-on. You are reading an example, but... where is the picture?? You have to turn the pages searching the picture and them back to the curretly page to keep going. To do that for more than 300 pages is very, VERY BAD. Really. Trust me. You need to have a lot of patience.
Well, if you read one of these books, don't worry: you will know all about candlesticks. But this book is easier to use and to consult.
And it is cheaper than Steve Nison's book.
Abrax!!!

I'm just learning how to trade options. I was never a technician since I relied on fundamental analysis. I've read about 5 books so far on charting and technical analysis and this book was the best. Other books tended to bog me down with tons of extraneous details. This books presents the essentials in a concise manner. The author here first goes through all the major candlestick patterns. He then explains what he considers the most important technical signals - Moving average, Wilder's RSI, Stochastics, and Bollinger Bands. The last part of the book is integrating everything together with several mini-case studies.
In summary, a must read for someone starting out in candlestick charting and technical analysis.

great job - I thought it was an excellent approach for both a beginner and advanced trader who wants to get started in candlestick trading. As usual you cover many angles there is to know about trading which not only includes the candlestick patterns, psychology, and their little nuances( like tails in a consolidation ) but you also offer added knowledge on trading the markets as well. You give a great roadmap for trading trends by using trend lines, moving averages and swing points to denote support and resistance as well as giving great insight with some helpful filters such as market indicators, volume and the understanding of volatility that the markets go through (ie expansion and contraction). Lastly the section on the risk reward ratio is a topic that every trader needs to be reminded for continued success.

After reading the reviews here, I purchased this book (2011 edition) for my significant other this Christmas. Of all his gifts, he LOVED this and pored over the contents for hours. It's a great addition to any serious investor's library. The part i liked most is the journal format for each date, to write notes etc. No more little post-its with stock symbols all over the house!

Timing Techniques for Commodity Futures Markets: Effective Strategy and Tactics for Short-Term and Long-Term Traders Review

Timing Techniques for Commodity Futures Markets: Effective Strategy and Tactics for Short-Term and Long-Term Traders
Average Reviews:

Timing Techniques by Colin Alexander is one of two books that have the most influence on my trading tactics. As a multiple time frame position trader, I use a confluence of indicators to identify a high probability low risk trade setup and execution in both stocks and commodities. He also shares indicator techniques that improves timing and lowers risk. I particularly appreciated his insights on the first round of spikes (2004 - 2006) in commodity's bull market and the pricing/indicator behaviors at those extremes. The entry/exit checklists was a nice addition to my plan and will help me avoid omissions in my analysis. With the advent of high-frequency computerized trading and the gradual disappearance of Pit-Traders, position trading will prove more profitable with less psychological pressure for Traders. I highly recommend this book and if you believe Bollinger Bands, MACD,STOCH and RSI are still viable tools especially when combined together then this is the book for you. And if you combine a multi-frame approach as I have, then purchase this book with Robert Miner's High Probability Trading Strategies. Both books are modern improvements on Philippe Cahen's Dynamic Technical Analysis.

There is a reason why this book has two reviews after two years in publication--smart people have NOT bought this book. The book is filled with the author's attempt at light humor mixed with his "prestidigitations" and believe me, not a bit of the first 89 pages are worth a dime unless you want to know how zebras become prey if they lurk on the edges of the herd?? Pages 90 through 174 are about personal computers, avoiding spam, backing up your data, how to send emails, you get the picture. The type of info a sixth grader has already mastered...why so many pages are devoted to absolute grammar school level is beyond me. Oh, the meat you ask...what is it. Well, jump to part three where you can find out what radio stations to listen to, what web sites carry financial information and trading software you could find by doing a very simple Google search. The "Tricks for the Active Trader" is use your time more wisely, read one issue of Investor Business Daily and you are ahead of this book's curve.
