How Technical Analysis Works (New York Institute of Finance) Review

How Technical Analysis Works (New York Institute of Finance)

Being in the business and a professional technical analyst, I have read many books on the subject, but "How Technical Analysis Works" is truly unique. If you are looking for black and white explanations of technical definitions, indicators, patterns, etc, this is probably not the book for you. However, if you want to learn how to use all of the tools at a technical analysts disposal in the real world, this is your book. There are enough books out there describing how to calculate a stochastic or RSI indicator, Mr. Kamich instead takes his many years of experience and explains how you should use these indicators in real-time. A distinctive feature of this book is his emphasis on thinking outside the box - almost challenging the reader to open his/her mind. This is highlighted by the examples (especially the chart patterns) he includes with his text. The chart examples he has chosen are not the picture perfect examples that rarely happen in real-time, but the type of patterns that challenge you to visualize scenarios that you may not have noticed at first glance. Although Bruce goes into great details in his explanations, this is an easy read that you will really enjoy. For those of you looking for an advantage over your fellow market participants (who isn't, especially in this market environment!), pick up "How Technical Analysis Works" - it is well worth the investment.

Amazing Life of Jesse Livermore: World's Greatest Stock Trader Review

Amazing Life of Jesse Livermore: World's Greatest Stock Trader

This book provides an excellent biographical portrait of one of the greatest Wall Street speculators that ever lived. This book is well researched and well written. In fact, as Livermore's life story unfolds in the book, the reader begins to feel as though they are eyewitnesses to the time. The reader gets to experience Livermore's triumphs and defeats. In the end, the reader will find that Livermore's life mirrored the stockmarket more than the life itself. This man's life ran with the bulls and the bears culminating in one big crash. Ultimately, Jesse Livermore died of lead poisoning, a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
If it is one's intention to garner the "Livermore Key" to profits in the stockmarket then this is definitely not the book. While the author briefly touches on Livermore's tactics and attempts to tie it into current stocks, the information provided is rather general and somewhat vague. The reader would be better off looking elsewhere for investment advice. However, if you are truly interested in Livermore himself then you might consider it. In the final analysis, while this book is a good one it really does pale in comparison to Edward LeFevre's classic book "Reminiscence of a Stock Operator." LeFevre's book speaks to the reader while Richard Smitten's new book is more of a third person account leaving the reader as more of an observer.

When you want to set up a spread, which options set should you use ? out of money, in the money or at the money ? When your trade is not going your way, what kind of damage control is possible ? If you want answers to such practical questions, then this book is for you. All traders in options should read this book. While the book refers to options on futures, traders in stock options should find many useful concepts - as I did.
Persons new to options will probably read this book once they have gone through some introductory text.
