Many a River Review

I've followed "Pop" Kelton's novels since meeting up with him at Baylor University back in the early 1980s, and this is one of his very finest. The plot resembles D. W. Griffith's Orphans of the Storm in that two siblings (brothers) are torn apart at an early age and we follow their separate adventures until the final pages of the novel. But what is startling here--for those like me who have a whole bookcase stocked with Kelton--is that he manages to do something rather unique here. He takes the best of his paperback style--finger-burning page-turning with loads of action, hard-knocks and bullets--and weds it to his hardcover style--meticulous historical sensibilities, fine dry humor, and utter believability. If you've found yourself getting a little sleepy with the last half-dozen or so novels, be prepared for a jolt. This one's a classic and a real corker, whether you're coming to Kelton for the first time or you're already carrying his brand.

Down Home Ever Lovin' Mule Blues Review

What a hoot!
Jacquie Rogers has an original and delightful imagination. This romance is completely different from anything you've ever read before. You'll find yourself laughing out loud at the
match- making animals. Rogers has created interesting characters and a hero and heroine you'll adore. Brody made my heart race, but I have always been partial to cowboys.
When you want to curl up with a good read, pick this book. From the first page you'll be hooked, and there is no way you'll be able to put it down.

The First Mountain Man: Preacher's Justice Review

This is another of the "can't put it down" books by William W. Johnstone. How that man can write!
In this story, Preacher is on his way back to St. Louis, where Dog has been guarding Jennie. He arrives to learn that Jennie was killed to keep her from talking about the swindle which Epson did to her. The killer Epson hired was named Caviness.
Preacher (Art) sets out to find Epson, who has moved to Philadelphia where he has an excellent position with a much-larger bank than had employed him in St. Louis. On the way, he stops at his family's farm, to learn his father has a mortgage which must be paid very soon and there is no money to pay it. We learn Art's last name is Coopersmith.
He pays the mortgage, in the process teaching the banker and his thugs a harsh lesson, and tells his father that the farm should go to his brother, Morgan, who stayed home and worked hard while Art "went to see the Creature". He tells his father that he believes he did see it, and that he is happy with his life out West.
Tracking down Epson and Coopersmith in Philadelphia, Art kills Caviness after the criminal kills Epson.
A very-engrossing tale, and almost every page has excitement and intrigue.

Received the book this morning and have already prepared a soup and sandwich combo. Modified the "Good Luck Greens and Beans" into a soup by adding chicken stock and a little Parmesan. Could not resist the
"Croque Monsieur". Both were easy and very tasty just like the previous book's offerings. The I Love Trader Joe's Cookbook: 150 Delicious Recipes Using Only Foods from the World's Greatest Grocery Store Reading the recipes is like being in class...you can just hear her talking. Funny, informative and helpful regarding TJ's products; things in the pantry and, more importantly, what to hoard. I recommend this for newbies and established cooks. We can all use a fresh suggestion or shake up the rut we sometimes get into. This will make perfect Christmas/Holiday gifts for all. The photography is beautiful but I'm sure there will be some who think there is not enough of it. My original book is dog-eared; to me a sign of being well loved. It won't take long for this one to become the same!
Now, where's my Guinness for those cupcakes.....?
