"Dud" Lee was a hero, not because he was some glossy rendition of a Hollywood ideal, but because he was an average, real person who survived and thrived in rough times. Thankfully, James Lee has written about those times. As editor of Doing It Write!, an e-newsletter for writers, I've seen my share of historical books. With _Nine Years in the Saddle_, you'll feel as though you're sitting by the fireplace, listening to Dud himself talk.
Dud's life, although only one or two generations ago, is foreign to modern teenagers. For the here and now, he believes we're likely to drift into an deflationary depression followed by hyperinflation toward the later part of the decade. He provides investment ideas for every stage of the cycle. The message to me is to anticipate the future and plan your investments accordingly. There will be great opportunities, but if you stand still, you could lose a boatload. Tough times are going to last. Better be prepared.

As a broker and former Risk Manager in the financial markets, I am usually somewhat suspicious of books by "traders" and/or "pundits". I usually find myself confronted by lots of self-serving drivel and advice that is not in any way applicable to typical traders. This book is a refreshing change from that.
Every new or newer trader should read this book. The excellent charts and analysis contained on them are worth the book's price all by themselves. What I found of particular interest, though, was his honest and refreshing approach to the oft-neglected subject of Risk. Every trader should read this portion of the book.
The book lays out in intricate detail the process a true professional trader must go through to successfully speculate. Fascinating stuff!
