I received a copy of this book and met the author at the LA Times book fair at USC. "Supper Table" is a sweet story of a child faced with major physical, mental and emotional challenges ... the type of child who is given up on to some degree even today, but more so in the era in which the story takes place -- the rural south of the 1940's. The beauty in the story is in following the young man over time, as people who sense the beauty and potential in him work to improve his capabilities, and how that pays off in so many ways. A worthwhile read - slow paced - written with a southern sensibility of that era.
