(More customer reviews)This is an excellent book. I am one week back from my first hunting experience, which was for elk in northern Colorado. Not knowing what to expect from hunting and in particular elk hunting, this book set the stage for my understanding of what to expect and how to prepare. The author was extremely thoughtful in the organization and topics offered in this book. I read it three times before going on my hunt. I was prepared in every way except one. The author wasn't kidding about being in shape. You can certainly be ready for hunting by doing normal fitness routines but hauling elk out of back country is an extreme physical challenge. The author provides many tactical options for driving and setting up ambushes. As a reader you don't appreciate the organization and quality of this book until you are in the field doing the right things and finding elk sign where others didn't look. I can say with confidence that I am totally hooked on hunting and that is in large part because I avoided many potential frustrations with good preparation all of which came significantly from reading this book.
