This is a lovely story that my children really enjoyed! It shows how outdated and senseless old animosities and stereotypes can be. The friendship and mutual respect of two boys help to bring new peace to two African villages. My children loved the images of the huge baobab tree and the old drum maker. The illustrations, also by Meshack Asare, were beautiful.
Asare's other book, The Canoe's Story, is also wonderful. My daughter found it very moving.
