I was aware of Andrews' pitchforks, which are included in most software packages but Dr Dologa has reinforced the importance of this tool and has created an easy to use professional-edge technique, never described before. It's value is not confined to just the use of pitchforks but also to the existing state-of-the-art professional trading tools, which can only enhance the traders performance and understanding of the markets.
He has drawn on his own 20 years' trading and investing experience and the combined experience of masters like Schabacker, Babson, Dr Andrews and more recently Timothy Morge.
As a Founder-Member of AUSTRALIAN Technical Analysts Association and as a career Senior Technical Analyst and Educator, spanning 45 years, I feel capable of passing judgement as to the importance of Dr Dologa's writings. Volume 1 is for Basic and Intermediate Levels but there are two more volumes covering this important subject: Volume 2 and Volume 3 Advanced Level, written for advanced traders. The title might appear somewhat daunting initially but it also covers areas of trading, many time-related, not widely known, thus being very beneficial, since 90% of traders don't use time parameters, which can and does bring disastrous trading results.
Dr Dologa takes you to a remarkable journey along the 444 pages and 420 charts of the first volume. He explains among other topics, that understanding pivots (definition, characteristics and functions) is the simplest concept that can become the most powerful and most efficient.
Once digested, you will want to move on to Volume 2 - Advanced Level. Volume 3 now in pipeline includes two important chapters: Intra-day Jenkins Tools (geometric tools for projecting pivots and quantifying the "time-price space") and Mastering the Real-Time Gann Tools (rediscovering the Gann trading approach). The latest version Market Analyst 6 Software includes these tools.
Each of the three volumes has KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER and the important Money Management technique, so often neglected by many traders.
I write a regular column in YOUR TRADING EDGE magazine, which is currently going GLOBAL. I reached the conclusion that the power of PITCHFORKS is indubitable. In the May/June 2008 issue, was published a stunning PITCHFORK chart on ASX 200 Index (monthly range 1985-2008). I believe it was the best technical presentation of the major bull market top at 6851.5 key level on 30th of November, 2007. At the time of the Dr Dologa's pitchfork chart presentation, the index was around 5009 key level - enough to make investors run for cover. Dr Dologa's view highlighted the significance of the 4500 support key level, which if broken would leave the window open for a further down leg and this would imply a lot more pain for investors but great opportunities for traders. The recent bear market low in ASX 200 Index 3073 key level on 9th March 2009, has inspired a technical rally.
These books will undoubtedly enhance your understanding of the technical aspects of markets, which will eventually be reflected in your profit and loss accounts.
I hold the view that Dr Dologa's three volumes on INTEGRATED PITCHFORK ANALYSIS deserve space on your bookshelf and more importantly close to your dealing desk. They are indeed a remarkable achievement in the advancement of Technical Analysis.
