The dying man offered Katrina and Jonah Fletcher two thousand in gold if they could get the ten-year-old girl Sanjean safely to his ranch near Jump's Well. They couldn't turn down the man's dying wish, or leave a young girl to be gunned down, so, never dreaming of the consequences, they accepted the mission. But the old man died before he could tell them the whole story. They knew they were in someone's gunsights but who or why was a mystery. McGea soon made his intentions known as his men dogged the pair and threatened their lives at every turn. Far more sinister and worrying, though, was the shadowy figure following them in the background, leaving a trail of slit throats. The odds against them seemed unbeatable, but Katrina and Jonah, with the aid of Sooey, a gentle giant, had just the kind of steely determination and raw courage that might see them through.
