Others may call it "woe as me," but it was a fabulous take on life on the road, how people think and what they think about while on the road, and what you may see on the road. It was entertainingly written, well-said, and most importantly the spelling was correct. This book does indie proud.
I couldn't begin to tell you my favorite part. The best I can do to explain it is, as someone who normally reads science fiction and fantasy, he made the most mundane parts (like turds in the toilet) interestingly funny. What else do you expect to see on the road? Elvis and space aliens? Even if you're just someone who commutes to work thirty minutes a day, there are a lot of things in this book you can relate to and laugh about.
I was sad when it was over - and that's the only spoiler you'll get.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to go on tour with a Broadway show? Now you have the chance to find out! Um, sort of...I have been on the road for over a quarter of a century playing drums and percussion in pit orchestras for many first class touring Broadway productions (13 to be exact). They include Mamma Mia, Fosse, Jekyll & Hyde, Les Mis, and the giant 50+ truck 1st national tour of Miss Saigon way back in the early '90's, to name drop a few. Gosh, I had a BLAST! However, all actors and musicians go through a rough patch at some time during their careers. I found myself in the middle of one of these during the fall of 2010 at which time I accepted (more like begged for) the drum/percussion chair on The Wizard of Oz North American Tour. Sounds impressive, doesn't it? It wasn't... As I am adept at exactly nothing other than playing the drums, and as I was literally starving due to lack of employment, on the road with WOZ I went. I began to keep a journal of my travels purely for my own amusement. This journal became a five and one half month, 30,000 mile long bus ride chronicle of my observation of the difference between a first class touring Broadway extravaganza, and a one nighter nightmare tour from hell (I mean that in a humorous way - sort of). Come along with me on this little non-union bus and truck imitation of a fake Broadway show. I guarantee that you'll laugh, you'll cry, it was... Well, you'll see...
