Cowboy Romance: (Of Horsesweat And Hornflies) (Volume 2) Review

Cowboy Romance: (Of Horsesweat And Hornflies) (Volume 2)

All those late-night John Wayne movies or old episodes of Rawhide got you hankerin' for the freedom and romance of the cowboy life? Started listening to old Sons of the Pioneers songs while commuting to the office? Well, be sure to read "Cowboy Romance" before you trade your Toyota Land Cruiser for an old beat-up Ford pickup and head for the hills. This book will set you straight on the cowboy life, and it's sure not about sitting around the campfire singing "Old Paint" while pretty cowgirls swoon.
Bob Kinford, the cowboy who wrote the book, is that rare blend of good cowpuncher and good writer. Bob's company, the "Too Lazy for You Livestock and Literary Company," underscores these talents. The book is well-designed and the illustrator, James Dorrance, is as talented as I've seen anywhere. In the introduction to the book, Bob asks: "If it isn't romance, freedom, or big money, what is it that makes one earn his living as a cowboy? As soon as I find out, I'll let you know, because I haven't the foggiest idea."
But Bob does know, and after you read his stories (all true), you begin to get a glimmer. Actually, he gives you a hint in the introduction, when he says, "So in spite of the broken bones, frostbitten fingers, and poverty, you press on for whatever the moments of pure pain and pure pleasure are worth, for without one you cannot truly appreciate the other." Bob's stories will have you in stitches, but they also are real and show you what price these men pay for their hard-won independence and freedom. It's a price most of are too lazy or too insecure (we want that retirement plan) to want to pay, so we'll read the book, laugh, and wish we could have more adventure in our lives, then (perhaps wisely, but the loss is ours) go back to the office. Great book!

True stories of "cun-cussin" induced cowboy humor from a working ranch cowboy with over 35 years in the saddle. Bob's writing will make you feel the pain and see the humor of living life in the cowboy lane. From being "bull-ta-puted" to being hit by lightning or dragged across the desert by his foot under a runaway bronc mule, Bob Kinford will have you simultaneously laughing and wrenching in pain. A must read for real cowboys and "wannabes" alike!

Down Home Ever Lovin' Mule Blues Review

What a hoot!
Jacquie Rogers has an original and delightful imagination. This romance is completely different from anything you've ever read before. You'll find yourself laughing out loud at the
match- making animals. Rogers has created interesting characters and a hero and heroine you'll adore. Brody made my heart race, but I have always been partial to cowboys.
When you want to curl up with a good read, pick this book. From the first page you'll be hooked, and there is no way you'll be able to put it down.

Chickens, Mules and Two Old Fools: Tuck into a slice of Andalucían Life Review

Chickens, Mules and Two Old Fools: Tuck into a slice of Andalucían Life

If you're looking to experience sunny Spain, and maybe even life in a tiny village tucked in the Alpujarra Mountains, and without leaving home, then CHICKENS, MULES AND TWO OLD FOOLS is the book for you.
Approaching retirement, Vicky and her husband, Joe, one day decide to pack up their bags and leave their comfortable Sussex, England home and settle in the village El Hoya, Spain. It is not long before they come to learn village life is full of surprises and quirky mishaps, and with hilarious culture clashes at every turn. When Vicky and Joe unintentionally find themselves chicken farmers, Vicky says:
"Oh, Please! Our Spanish neighbours already thought we were insane, sitting on the yellow sofa gazing at our flock, letting them hop onto our laps, talking to them."
Whether saved by a mule or sitting at a party table in the middle of the road celebrating a neighbour's birthday (and blocking traffic), CHICKENS ... not only paints a warm, humorous and colourful picture of rural Spain, but also tells of how two zany Brits came to fit right in. Light-hearted and full of sunshine. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

How to Survive a Horror Movie Review

How to Survive a Horror Movie
Average Reviews:

While there were attempts at making "self-aware" horror movies before, it could be said that "Scream" was the best attempt at doing so. It is fitting then that Wes Craven writes a short introduction to "How to Survive a Horror Movie," a tongue in cheek manual on doing just that. This is one of those rare books that you could pass by in a book store, start flipping through, and decide then and there you must own it. It starts very strong with chapters on deciding if you are currently in a horror movie, what kind of horror movie you're in, and the unique skills required in surviving the many different genres of horror movies.
There are several laugh-out-loud passages, that I won't spoil here, and the book is filled with decidedly creepy pictures evoking the mood of the old EC comic books. Where the book falters is in the later chapters as the witty, self-aware horror movie depictions give way to simple how-to lists that offer no humor (the worst of which is the snakes on a plane bit that just falls flat).
"How to Survive a Horror Movie" does end with perhaps the funniest tip of the whole book with a "sure fire" way to defeat the devil (do yourself a favor and don't read it until the very end). While not a five star homerun, due to the last third of the book that starts to drag, this is an entertaining and light read that will please any horror fan and even the simple movie buff.
